Still here....

I'm sorry I haven't updated lately. I haven't even worked on getting the background and stuff the way I want. But I have good excuses :-)
I'm still spending most of my time on school. And so far that's paying off. But things are starting to get a little harder so we'll see. My toughest class is French. Mainly because languages just aren't my thing. But I took the second test today and I think I did ok.
I've done really well so far in public speaking, anthropology and computers. But like I said things are getting tougher. Like for instance, I have to write a research paper in the field of Anthropometry (literally, measurement of man) using statistics I've gathered myself. Still no idea what I'm going to to that on.
My English grades are still up in the air as nothing has been turned in yet. That's all due later this month. I'm writing most of my stuff on Lizzie Borden (the ax murderer). Don't ask! Of course I've gotten good grades in class participation in that class. You know I love to talk/debate stuff.
Other than school:
I'm currently seeing a doctor for a couple different complaints. Mainly restless leg syndrome. Also carpal tunnel-type pain, and foot spasms. Got blood work done. She had to stick me in both arms. I have really stubborn blood. Again, don't ask! My elbows are not a pretty sight.
I spent yesterday doing mostly non-intellectual stuff like cleaning and laundry. The majority of the day was helping Dad put up a barbwire fence. Basically I PULLLLLL the wire and he staples (with a hammer, not a staple gun!). In case you're wondering I have very strong arms for a girl since I've been doing things like pulling wire since I was like 10. It was a very nice day for working outside. Hope the weather stays like this for a while.

So that pretty much covers me for right now. Except for one thing. I'll be 20 on October 15. Yay :-)

Not much going on....

Not much to report on me. School and more school.
I gave my first speech yesterday. As far as I can tell I did well. My teacher places a large emphasis on organization and I put a lot of work into that. I now have to come up with something or someone to praise in a ceremonial speech. Still mulling that one over.

I had my first Anthropology test. Which I did well on. I like that class in spite of the whole chain of monkeys thing. The professor is interesting and knowledgeable.

French on the other hand is killing me. I think we all know that my brain is not orientated in the direction of math or foreign language. I'll be spending some time this afternoon figuring out more French grammar. Ick!

I quite enjoy my English class. But of course we haven't gotten to the part where we turn in papers!

And of course by now you know how I feel about CPT 101 (computers). Yesterday was painless however. Just a multiple choice test. I love those ;-)

So until further notice you'll find me at Trident Tech or at home recovering!

In school....

As usual I am bored stiff in computers class. I have learned some new stuff about Word 2007. Enough to know that I really prefer the old Word. They took away my menus!!!!!!!
I still got an A on the Word test though.

Had an interesting English class. I like that class even though it's nothing like I thought an English 101 class was supposed to be. Today we discussed an essay about "Jihad" by an American Jew who went to Afghanistan and Pakistan to learn more about Madrasas (Islamic seminaries). I like discussions :-)
Just not ones that go like: -This is a folder. Right click and turn on "rename".- That kind drives me nuts :-) I have a headaches EVERY time I end up in this class.

We're almost back...

Ok so I've recovered most of my stuff. And I've been working on the formatting but that's gonna take some more tweaking later. Abbye will kill me if I don't let her get back to her facebook account soon. :-)

The new background is from http://simplychicblogs.blogspot.com/. It's really pretty but I have to say it's not working quite like it's supposed to. The widths of the images don't match the template like they're supposed to.

Trouble with Blogger...

In an effort to do some minor blog tweaking I have lost everything but my text. All my badges, formatting, etc. Something blogger did while changing a template. I'm really disgusted. I've changed templates before without this happening. And no matter what I do now it will not change what's there now. So there's still the words but I have nothing to do with the sidebar or formatting.

----Blog now under construction----

Why I like T.S. Hanna

Thanks to Hanna I get out of school for the 2nd time this week! Yay! Classes are cancelled all day tomorrow at Tech so I get to stay home again. School one time a week. This could work for me .
But even staying home I have to keep up with homework. You'll be happy to know that after spending 20 minutes trying to make my online English 101 account load I got "100" on my "Capitalization" exercise ;-) I'm confident that most 3rd graders could also do that but who minds a little review :-)

I don't have that much to talk about....My world has mostly been revolving around school for the last little while. And I'm going to try not to do all my complaining on here. I mean that's what parents are for right? :-) They get to hear me complain about extraordinarily boring computer classes or large chunks of time devoted to MLA citations. So you guys are off the hook!

Long Weekend :-)

Well college is going fine so far. I'm enjoying all my classes except computers. That class leaves a lot to be desired but I'm not going to rant about that now :-)
I have a long weekend thanks to labor day so I'm not due back at school till Wednesday. I have plenty of reading to do this weekend though! Mostly from my Anthropology professor. Everything from millions of years ago to the science of "garbology" (I kid you not) in Florida.
My professor said a couple things today I had a hard time swallowing. I'm not going to waste my time debating the theories of evolution or the even idea that the earth happened 15 billion years ago but he seriously messed up on some biographical information on Carolus Linnaeus today!
He wasn't quite sure what religion Linnaeus belonged to but was sure it was some form of "fundamentalist" Christianity, most probably Catholicism. And he mentioned that Linnaeus lived in the 1830s. He was sure that the religious group he was a member of believed strongly in the "Greater Chain of Being" theory. This is the theory that life evolved from some organism in the bottom of the ocean but with intent to become man, the ultimate life form on the chain. It was invented by the ancient Greeks. He stated that Linnaeus set out to prove this theory but failed.
My problems:
First of all Linnaeus was a Lutheran not a Catholic. If you know anything about the reformation you know that the Lutheran denomination was created for the sole purpose of not being Catholic.
Secondly the term "fundamentalist" was created in the 20th century as a reaction to modern religious ideas. It stresses sticking to the Bible including literal creation. Which brings me to the fact the Linnaeus lived in the 1700s not the 1800s. 1707 to 1778 to be precise.
We also know that the Lutheran denomination was founded on the teachings of Martin Luther who was seeking to reform the Catholic church. He was a firm young earth creationist and I highly doubt that any strain of the Lutheran church in the 1700s even entertained the idea of a "Greater Chain of Being".
So regardless of who's theory is right or even what Linnaeus may have concluded during his life most of the "facts" my professor spoke of today were blatantly wrong. Which of course bugs me. Scientific ideas can be debated but to mess up historical, on-record, facts about a man's life work is sloppy academics. Especially for a doctor of anthropological linguistics.
